CAPTIVATE’s Scientific and Ethics Advisory Committee has been appointed

The CAPTIVATE project announces the appointment of the independent Scientific and Ethics Advisory Committee (SEAC), a group comprised of international experts in malaria immunology, mRNA vaccinology, public health, clinical trials, ethics and immunoinformatic research.

The SEAC is currently composed of six experts in the CAPTIVATE topic fields from prestigious universities and research centers, and includes:

  • Dr. Rieke van der Graaf- Head and Associate Professor of Bioethics at the University Medical Center Utrecht, Julius Center, Dpt of Bioethics and Health Humanities. (The Netherlands)

  • Dr. Carlota Dobaño- Head of the Malaria Immunology Group at ISGlobal. (Spain)

  • Prof. Lars Hviid- Professor, Malaria Immunology and Pathogenesis, University of Copenhagen. (Denmark)a

  • Dr. Paul G. Thomas- Dep of Immunology, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. (US)

  • Prof. Dr. Steve Pascolo- Professor at University of Zurich. (Switzerland)

  • Dr. Lindsey Wu- Technical Officer – WHO Global Malaria Programme Department of Immunology and Infection. (Switzerland)


SEAC members have been selected and approved by the Consortium on the basis of pre-defined criteria to ensure that the composition of the board is appropriate to provide the guidance required to achieve CAPTIVATE goals.

The high-level board acts independently in key tasks of the CAPTIVATE project, supporting scientific strategy and prioritization of project activities, providing advice on ethics/regulatory issues and considerations, European guidelines, and in conflict resolution. Annually, upon request of the Steering Committee, the SEAC prepares a report including recommendations on the scientific advancement of the project.


The CAPTIVATE consortium expresses sincere gratitude to SEAC members for their valuable input. The SEAC will maintain an active advisory role throughout the project, and partners are grateful for the further tangible benefits anticipated from their continued involvement and sharing of expertise.


The first meeting between the Consortium and the SEAC was successfully held Monday, September 23rd, 2024, and outlined the milestones to be achieved and upcoming scientific challenges to support and steer the project. The SEAC will also be attending the next CAPTIVATE annual meeting, planned for February 2025.
